Pete Licata of Hawaii, 2010’s reigning Western Regional Barista Champion, took home top honors by pairing his signature affogato al caffe with – get this – a single piece of chocolate covered bacon.
In a word: brilliant.
For those of you, like us, who have absolutely no idea what an affogato al caffe is, coffee blog BrewedDaily.com has this to say on the subject:
An affogato is a traditional Italian espresso-based treat that you’ll find on the menu at many Italian restaurants, as well as at many cafes serving espresso and other coffee drinks. The full name is really “affogato al cafe” or “drowned in coffee,” in Italian.
Licata, who lives in Hawaii, is the head barista trainer and coffee quality manager for Honolulu Coffee Co.
Also, a genius.
After all, if there’s one thing we do know at TasteOfAloha.com, it’s this:
Bacon really does make everything better.
